This is my last "Single" Valentine's Day...
Steven told me on Friday that he had a "surprise" for me...and asked me to get ready by 12:00 pm on Sat
We jumped in a taxi at 12:20 pm and headed to Columbus circle...then I know, we are going to Asiate at Mandarin Oriental!
The restaurant is at 35F...next to Central Park...with amazing view
The restaurant is surrounded by windows....nice weather brought the bright sunlight in...
For V day...they provided Brunch Pre-Fixed Menu with some options
Start with bread
Appetizer is a combination of 4 tasting items...Foie Gras Custard, Sesame Tuna Tataki, Edamame Dim Sum, Cauliflower Veloute
I was most impressed (and surprised) with the one at SW corner...it looked like tomato soup with a brioche on it
but it turned out to be the Strawberry Gelee on top of the Foie Gras....YUMMY!
For main course, each person has two choices...
This is mine: "Grilled New York Steak" & "Miso Glazed Black Cod'
(Surprising factor- there is jumbo lump crab under the rice!)
Steven's choices: "Sunny Side Up Egg and Spinach Mushroom Gratin" & "Pecan Pancakes with Honey Crisp Apple Compote"
(Surprising factor: a piece of shaved truffle on top of the egg!)
Dessert: Strawberry Chocolate Mousse, Passion Fruit Panna Cotta
The restaurant also has a "dessert bar" for guests to "take out" whatever you like!
They use the "Chinese take-out" box....how cute!
Happy me...
After brunch, we decided to buy the Valentine's day gift for each other- to pick up our Wedding rings...
We went to the same jewelry where Steven got my engagement ring...after 1.5 hour trying...here is our selection- simple & elegant!
then we headed home to cook together for the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner with Steven's brother's family coming from California...
A sweet, memorable, and meaningful Valentine's day for both of us...:)
